Drill Hall

Description

Drill Hall is a substantial renovation and conversion project, transforming an industrial building into co-working offices, cafe and residential apartments in the heart of Mile End.
The brief was to transform the existing dramatic spaces for new uses whilst being sympathetic to the heritage, form and patina of the original building. New, crisp insertions meet the original fabric and retained structure creating unique and unexpected material junctions. Rooflights, translucent blocks and lightwells punctuate the plan bringing in daylight, emphasising the dramatic scale and spatial quality of the original building.

The building’s fabric has been thermally upgraded to achieve BREEAM ‘excellent’ and EPC B. The restoration of the dilapidated building juxtaposed with the new additions brings new purpose and longevity to the unique site, cementing its place within the cityscape, street and local community.
